Brassed Off photo shoot at the Lancashire
mining Museum

This is the winding gear that was used to raise and lower both men and coal from the mine that was about half a mile deep. The gear could handle about 9 tons.

This picture is the engine house for the winding gear. A powerful steam engine that was built almost 100 years ago and is still working today. the engine is run several times each year but compressed air is used rather than using coal to produce steam.

This is the Band at the Mining Museum putting on brave face in the cold and snowy conditions.
