December

A usual, a hectic month with Concerts at Winwick Church, Lowton Civic Hall (Mencap) and Carols at St. Catherine's and at Asda. Thanks to everyone in the Band for their efforts in this busy season.

November

Once we enter November the pace starts to quicken.

On the 8th we played two Remembrance Services, in the morning in Wigan and the afternoon at Golborne. Congratulations go to Nicola, Fay and Alex for playing the 'Last Post' so well at their services.

The Wilkinsons contest followed on the 14th and this time our efforts were better rewarded with a 4th place and a Solo Cornet prize for Nicola.

No time to rest as it was necessary to prepare for Christmas. Our first Carol Concert was held in Golborne on the 26th of November when the Christmas tree lights were switched on.

One piece of sad new this month was the resignation of our Solo Tenor Horn player Adam. The Band would like to thank Adam for his services and wish him well in the future.

October

October marked the start of the contest season with contests at Fleetwood and Pontins, Prestatyn.

The Band felt that they gave quite good performances, particularly at Pontins, but the Adjudicators thought otherwise. Still, the spirit in the band is good and we are optimistic for the future.

September

The band played at the prestigious Hatton Show in Cheshire. On a gloriously sunny day, a crowd of over 1500 visitors were entertained. Our Soprano Cornet player Alex distinguished himself by climbing to the top of the Greasy Pole in record time!

The band has this month received a £750 grant from Wigan Borough Councils Community Chest Funding. The band would like to thank Jenny Grayson, our Flugel Horn player and Treasurer for all the hard work in securing the grant.

August

August was a quiet month due to holidays but the band gave a much appreciated concert at Vale Park, New Brighton. The band has again this month welcomed a new player, Rachael Devlin has joined on Solo Trombone.

June and July

June and July were very busy with a march at Hindley and concerts at Moss Bank Park, Bolton, Haigh Hall, Wigan and Pennington Park, Leigh. The band also performed well at the St. Helens Hymn and March contest coming 2nd in our section and finishing in front of higher graded bands. July also saw the arrival of a new player to the band, Dave Greenwood has joined us on Repiano Cornet.

May

The band took a well earned break for the bank holiday and are looking forward to a good month!

April

A productive AGM saw several new faces on the committee and a new splitting of Colin's responsibilities as secretary with two new band sergeants to relieve some pressure on contest and performance days.

I shall try to upload some minutes from the AGM asap.

The band also wishes Vicky a speedy recovery

March

After much rehearsal the band suffered a mild disappointment at Blackpool but the remarks from the conductor and from 4barsrest were positive.

More will be posted about this shortly.
